Master planned communities around Houston often have architectural review committees that approve exterior changes, including paint colors. Starting work before approval can lead to fines or an order to repaint. A little preparation keeps the process simple.
Start with your HOA documents
Look for your neighborhood design guidelines, often on the HOA website or management portal. Many communities publish an approved color palette. Picking from that list is usually the fastest route to approval.
What most committees ask for
- 01A completed request form. Usually available from the management company.
- 02Color names and codes. Manufacturer, color name and number for body, trim, doors and shutters.
- 03Physical swatches or photos. Some committees want actual color chips, not just codes.
- 04A photo of your home. Current front elevation so they can picture the change.
- 05Contractor information. Some HOAs ask for the painting company name and proof of insurance.
Timing
Committees often meet monthly, and reviews can take a few weeks. Submit your request as soon as you have chosen colors, then schedule the work once approval is in hand.
Ask for approval of one or two backup colors in the same request. If your first choice is denied, you will not have to start over and wait another month.
How we help
During your estimate we can help narrow down colors, provide swatches and product information, and give you a certificate of insurance if your HOA requires one. When approval comes through, we schedule your job.
